1
Welcome back for another video.
2
107 points in the green arrow to about 600k and the wildcard now active.
3
Proper rollercoaster game week last one.
4
It was looking very very bad before Man United had played.
5
I was sat ranked just under 7 millionth in the world with basically no returns barring Haaland's brace.
6
And that only hurt rank as well because of captaincy.
7
And then Man United battle Ipswich.
8
Bruno registers the biggest FPL score we've seen in over a year.
9
23 pointer, a hat trick and an assist well played if you captained him.
10
The scary part is that in my eyes the best Gameweek 3 or even Gameweek 4 wildcard actually doesn't include Bruno.
11
Could that be a big mistake to lose him after such a big return?
12
I'm gonna have to point out that it was just inevitable
13
that the bench smashed it after that carefully planned Gameweek 1 bench boost which flopped.
14
Gross ends up with a goal and an assist at Stamford Bridge.
15
Max Bone is 13 pointer.
16
Hume keeps a clean sheet as well
17
so 21 points on the bench you couldn't write it
18
so let's take a quick look at how you all got on then we'll talk about the wild card
19
and i'll explain the decision as you can imagine there were
20
some truly ridiculous scores last game week sj city says 138
21
with the bench boost glad i got the bench boost out
22
of the way since it's looking like premium players are the
23
way to go right now in my opinion i'm not sure
24
if i should walk up this week
25
or in game week four got 18 points on the bench
26
boost captain bruno plus he had returns from raya ballard calafuri
27
and bumo xao pedro dcl harland
28
and some defcons what a week they can says you can
29
count me in for the worst one i tried to be
30
that guy with a wild card but failed disaster start to the wild card
31
so no bruno 71 points all out i can't remember a week like it before like
32
so early in the season where the average score was
33
so high it was over 80 points average points globally anyway
34
i hope you bounce back next week can hold firm or no Bruno.
35
Let's do a couple more.
36
Rahul says let me know if you want any FPL tips.
37
Look at this for a team, 144 points all out.
38
That's probably the best gameweek rank you'll ever achieve, like not far off the world's best score last gameweek.
39
Only 3 blanks out of 15.
40
By the way I'm really enjoying seeing how many of you have been using my live rank tool.
41
Maybe that is the secret behind these huge scores, so do make sure you check your rank next gameweek fpl.page slash rank
42
or fpl focal in the app store it's free
43
so did anyone beat 144 points there was one manager it's
44
mythen with an absurd 147 pointer six double digit returns
45
and mythen says my highest individual points tally ever well played
46
fantasy football scout are currently doing five pounds off membership plus seven months free with the annual option
47
so don't miss the flash sale.
48
There's a QR code on screen.
49
I'll go to the link in the description s.id slash fplfocal.
50
I never go through a game without spending time using the members tool, and every stat that I use in these videos comes from there, so do check them out and it supports the channel.
51
So, wildcard is active.
52
Why have I activated it?
53
The plan before the season started was GW4, so it's a week earlier basically.
54
A few factors contributed.
55
One was Zolis getting taken off for half-time against Villa.
56
He didn't have the best game and obviously it's still too early to assess him.
57
I'm sure he'll be a great pick long term
58
but with some uncertainty of whether he starts or as he starts against Chelsea, it meant I was going to be making a transfer in GW3 before wildcard him.
59
So it's a transfer saved this week.
60
Another factor, I was looking at how I would line up for GW4 on the wildcard
61
and it was almost identical to GW3.
62
So there is a case of bringing it forward in those situations.
63
If you think there's enough to gain doing so one week early.
64
Obviously there's a lot of information to be gained so early in the season so that is a risk by going now.
65
Things could change fast and it'd be a mistake.
66
Another factor was team value.
67
It was like a 0.5 million team value swing to take advantage of.
68
And that's only after activating it last night, let alone if I'd gone last Friday like many did.
69
And activating it later than others has actually presented an opportunity that I really like.
70
So all the GW3 wildcards have got Palmer playing Arsenal way.
71
Palmer rose last Friday so they're not going to take him out before the deadline.
72
but there is an opportunity now that I've missed
73
that to chuck in a City attacker in his place and then swap them to Palma and Gemic 4.
74
So this setup basically gets you triple City attack home to Coventry and then double Chelsea attack home to Hull.
75
Plus the rest of the team's been refreshed as well so let's run through it.
76
One of the arguable downsides of the Gemic 3 wildcard is Arsenal facing Chelsea.
77
Not an easy fixture but I've opted for Ryer in goal who's going to be my set
78
and forget keeper all the way until the second wildcard unless he gets injured or something.
79
I know he's expensive at 6mm
80
but I do like the idea of playing the premium
81
and not having to mess around with trying to guess the right 4.5mm keeper.
82
You know there's Kinski, Verbruggen, Petsch, Rich Leno.
83
One of them will do really well, maybe a couple of them will.
84
It's not gone that well for me owning a couple of them early on this season.
85
I did notice though you can rotate Kinski and Leno and it actually gives you an incredible run of fixtures long term.
86
Does have potential but I'm going set and forget Raya.
87
In defence it's Gabriel, Hall and Chau.
88
So Gabriel another set and forget spot for obvious reasons.
89
Very expensive.
90
But if he scores anything close to last season he'll actually be well worth it.
91
And the early signs are Arsenal's defence is going to remain the best in the league.
92
Like 209 points or thereabouts for 8 million would actually be fantastic.
93
But let's not forget Haaland for 7.5 million more scored just 30 more points last season.
94
I think it's very important on a wildcard to build a robust long term team and he does tick that box.
95
Arsenal are actually third on the clean sheet odds for game week three.
96
Man City are top 48%, Brentford 40%, Arsenal third in 36% and then it's Aston Villa and Brighton of 34%.
97
So double Newcastle defence I think is probably the weak point in the team.
98
It doesn't feel ideal this game week.
99
They do have Bournemouth home, it's a home fixture but Bournemouth are a pretty good team.
100
But just to clarify this is not the setup every week.
101
It's just for game week three and five and six.
102
So that's Bournemouth home, Hull, Home and Coventry away.
103
Outside of those game weeks, it's just one of them that starts, one on the bench for strong depth.
104
Newcastle's long-term fixtures are so good and they're actually looking much better than many expected them to play, myself included.
105
Could it be a similar story to Brentford last season?
106
Who remembers when they lost Thomas Frank, Norgaard and Bumo, Vista etc. Many thought they would be in trouble but they ended up looking better than ever.
107
Newcastle have lost Tonali, Bruno G, Gordon, Howe.
108
I've been really impressed by them.
109
I know it's still early days but I have been impressed.
110
Van Heek is another one that I'm looking at especially if he drops to 4.9 mil before the deadline.
111
He's getting really close so maybe I could go for Van Heek and Chao.
112
I think I like Chao more than Hall.
113
Dedich as well for 4.5 mil worth of mention.
114
Newcastle defender as well.
115
He got an assist last game week and the clean sheet
116
and the game before he got two assists in the League Cup so that's three assists in his last two games.
117
Really attacking player.
118
Now, Liveramento is meant to be back sometime this month, but it seems to be dead at his spot to lose.
119
And this quote makes me think Liveramento isn't actually near threatening his minutes yet.
120
First of all, we're happy that he's back in training.
121
Now, also fully integrated, he still follows some of his individual program.
122
Sooner than later, he is fully back in training.
123
And then we can also talk about the squad and
124
when he's able to be in the match they scored getting the first minutes
125
but again step by step and take our time
126
and as I said ultimately I'm trying to set up a robust wildcard team
127
which is why I've opted for Hall for the extra 0.5 mil.
128
Hall actually does have Defcon points in both games so far
129
and he's an attacking player himself
130
and I just know for certain there's no way he becomes
131
a problem later barring injury whereas Dedic maybe it'll happen maybe it won't
132
but you know in a month or two perhaps Livramento starts to threaten his minutes
133
so I'm just kind of removing that risk from my team right now on the wildcard.
134
The midfield is Anderson, Semenyo, Sangare, Zabosla and Gross.
135
I'm expecting Anderson to be a great pick long term.
136
He got 14 Defcons last game.
137
I think he'll continue to churn out consistent Defcon returns
138
and he's going to finish the season on something like 10 goal level points so he's a patient long term pick.
139
Sangare is the same and I was a bit conflicted whether to include him in the team
140
because I can actually afford O'Reilly or Vardio instead of Hall but I'd have to drop Sangare to Slater.
141
If you could tell me with 100% certainty that Vardio or O'Reilly will never miss a game, they'd be in the team.
142
But City's depth is absolutely ridiculous in all positions.
143
I think the few nailed players are Haaland, Anderson, maybe Semenya, but maybe not even Semenya.
144
But in left back, you've got Vardio, you've got O'Reilly.
145
You've got 8 Norrie that can play there.
146
Left centre back, you've got Vardio and Gehi competing.
147
And obviously O'Reilly can play in midfield, but there's so much competition in midfield as well.
148
so I'm wondering
149
if there's a chance Mureska uses some of those quote-unquote easier
150
upcoming games just to rotate a little bit you know like Ipswich home perhaps
151
and those are the games you really want Vardy or O'Reilly starting
152
but I don't know I just feel like it's not out of the question 8-Nori gets a rare start
153
and left back you know maybe then it is Vardy
154
and Ruben Diaz and centre back yeah he misses out a game something like
155
that just could happen it might be totally wrong with this
156
but I'm just deciding not to take the risk on in the wild card.
157
Who remembers that chart from preseason, Alex showing where Sangare plots for Defcons per 90 and XGI per 90.
158
It's a small sample size but he's recreating those exact same numbers, 0.34 XGI per 90, 14.7 Defcons per 90,
159
almost exactly in the same spot on the chart as he was last season.
160
So he looks amazing for 5.7mm and he's got Sunderland home.
161
And just for added context, I've taken a chance on Concer on my bench but not for this game week.
162
Upgrading Slater gives me Sangare home to Sunderland which just makes sense
163
and I can remove that risk of starting concert going triple defence and hoping that he starts.
164
So yeah those that had committed to wildcard 3 back on Friday picked up Palmer before he rose.
165
I missed that ride but I've spotted an opportunity
166
which is chucking in another Man City attacker home to Coventry
167
and leaving enough in the bank to swap them to Palmer in game week 4.
168
It feels like a rare exception where I think a booked
169
in transfer after a wildcard could be worth it given the fixtures, plus I've got the second free transfer banked, plus I've set up with good bench depth in case something else goes wrong.
170
So the question is which Man City attacker, Cherky or Semenya or Fodum?
171
I know Cherky just scored a brace and got 2 assists off the bench game at 1.
172
I do think he'll come off early again though.
173
Obviously it might not matter, he could have hauled by then.
174
But Semenya has played back to back 90s and that was the trend last season.
175
He was getting the best minutes of the attackers, obviously plus Haaland.
176
So I'm going for Semenyo.
177
So Bostolaj and Gros are one of the few players that remain in the team from before the wildcard.
178
So we'll pretty much skip over them.
179
I just think in my eyes, they're such good picks for their price with the free kicks, corners and pens.
180
Like Gros just showed last match what he's capable of.
181
A 13-pointer, even in a game like Chelsea away.
182
And then up front, it's Visser and Haaland.
183
So Haaland captain, obviously.
184
He's on five stars on the captain tour, so it's not even close this week.
185
I really wouldn't recommend going against Haaland.
186
Everyone else is on 1 star.
187
And well played if he did follow the captain tool last week for Bruno's 23 pointer.
188
So Volta Mada has left Newcastle, I think it's a loan for the season.
189
I'm really liking Wisser for 6.1 mil.
190
Probably even on penalties as well.
191
And we know from a couple of years ago what his level can be, 24 goal environments in the league.
192
He's returned in both games so far and look at the fixtures.
193
Bournemouth, Leeds, Hull, Coventry, Villa, Palace, Everton, Fulham.
194
Really good long-term fixtures.
195
For projected goals over that run, they're 6th top in the league and that's behind Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United.
196
The bookies odds for team goals for GW3 have got Man City far and away top on 3.0 goals, Liverpool 2nd on 2.3, Arsenal, Brentford 1.9.
197
So yeah, I'm happy to have triple Man City attack for that one.
198
I don't know if you can call it triple attack because one of them is Anderson, so 2.5 attackers.
199
Saka, obviously a really valid option as well on the wildcard.
200
It's really easy to have Saka, Palm and Haaland in a team.
201
It basically means you drop Gabriel to Calafiore, Anderson then goes up to Saka and you have to find 0.3mm from somewhere else,
202
like maybe one of the Newcastle defenders to a 4.5mm defender or maybe losing Raya.
203
Really could go either way that one because Saka is really explosive.
204
As I keep saying, I've gone for the most robust setup possible.
205
It might not happen, but at some point, Hincapia could come in for a game or two for Calafiore.
206
And obviously Saka's injury record the last couple of years is not the best.
207
Whereas Gabriel, Hall and Anderson are just three solid, reliable picks.
208
So let's do the bench.
209
It's still João Pedro, Conce and O'Shea.
210
One more week without João Pedro in the team or in the starting XI this week.
211
Going to take on his ownership one more time for that Arsenal game.
212
Which in itself is massive upside.
213
Like an Arsenal clean sheet isn't just huge because it means the clean sheet points may be bonus from Ryan Gabriel.
214
It also means João Pedro is blanked.
215
On those projected goals bookies odds, you might not have even spotted Chelsea.
216
There are 1.0 projected goals for GW3, so third from bottom of all teams.
217
It could backfire given how good Jaipedro's look, but the odds suggest it is a valid strategy for GW3.
218
The hope is that Konza breaks into the team imminently, potentially even this game against Chelsea, and then he's a set-up to get starter as well.
219
Like for 4.4 mil, if it happens, he'll be a joke for that cheap.
220
I wouldn't expect Arteta to chop
221
and change it like some managers do once he gives Konza
222
that start I think that's it the minutes are going to be invaluable to build
223
that centre-back partnership with Gabriel and I think if it happens then Konza basically starts every game Mosquera gets cup games
224
and as I say 1.4 mil left in the bank with this draft
225
which is Semenyo to Parma that has 0.3 mil left over after making
226
that switch in game week four lastly let's just talk about triple captain quick then
227
because I was looking at going to game week three.
228
This does feel like a very good week to use it because Man City have got a full week before Coventry home.
229
Other opportunities later have got midweek football either side like Ipswich home is nice, Sunderland home is nice and Hull home is nice.
230
They're the obvious alternatives and I'm 100% going in one of those weeks.
231
I think Sunderland could potentially be going under the radar as an option.
232
They've got Arsenal and then they've got Europa midweek and then they've got Man City a few days after that.
233
That's a really rough run But after Ipswich just conceded 5 goals to Man Utd in the way they did, I think maybe that's even better than Sunderland.
234
Man City play against PSG 3 days before the Ipswich game though, which isn't the best timing but at least it's a home fixture as well so it's 2 home games in a row.
235
That's the wildcard team, what do you guys think?
236
Hopefully I've explained myself why and how I landed on the decision.
237
Make sure you're subscribed to find out how it goes next week.
238
I'll see you soon for the next one.

Speaking Goals for This Clip

This video is perfect for practicing conversational fluency and natural rhythm in English. The speaker uses casual, real-world language—common in sports discussions—to share opinions, recount experiences, and explain decisions. By focusing on this dialogue, you’ll target the milestone of speaking with confidence in unscripted, topic-driven conversations, a key step for everyday communication.

Phrase Bank

  • "Proper rollercoaster" – Describes a situation with unexpected ups and downs.
  • "Barring Haaland's brace" – Except for Haaland scoring two goals.
  • "Well played" – A friendly way to praise someone’s success.
  • "Could that be a big mistake?" – A rhetorical question to introduce doubt.
  • "You couldn't write it" – Expresses surprise at an unlikely event.
  • "Bounce back" – Recover from a setback.

Fix Your Weak Spots

The video’s fast-paced, conversational style makes it ideal for improving pronunciation and speech rhythm using the shadowing technique (or "shadow speak"). Here’s how: Pause the video after short phrases, then repeat them immediately, mimicking the speaker’s tone, stress, and pace. Notice how words like "inevitable" (in-EV-i-ta-ble) and "absurd" (ab-SURD) are stressed—this helps with clarity. Also, practice the natural "flow" of phrases like "I'm gonna have to point out" where words connect (e.g., "gonna" instead of "going to"). This shadow speech practice trains your mouth to move like a native and helps you understand how English sounds in real time. Over time, it will make your speaking sound more natural and reduce pauses as you learn to "think in English" while talking about dynamic topics like sports.
