Hola amigos, this is Billy Sheehan, I'm here at the famous BB Kings club here in New York City in Times Square. Mr Pick's playing here tonight and we're really pleased about that,
2
it's going to be a rocking night. All over the world on this whole tour, starting back months and months ago I've been relying on my Hartke amps cabinets and they haven't let me down at all, some of the foreign countries use a lot of varieties of different Hartke
3
stuff so it was interesting to hear it all. It's been fabulous. Tight, solid as a rock, quality control, very very important, obviously somebody not only knows what they're doing
4
but somebody cares and that's a big factor for me with the amps I'm using. They've done a great job and I'm real pleased with the tones I've gotten, the band's happy about it, our front of house mixers happy about it so I'm pleased very much myself. So that's
5
my story about Hartke, I'll be doing more little video things like this explaining the whole story top to bottom inside and out, up to down and explain exactly what I do with
6
them, how I do with them, all that and if you're interested then I'm sure it's coming, but in the mean time I'm just very very pleased with the Hartke stuff and very glad that Larry gave me a call and allowed me to play through these great amps. So I'm proud to have these Hartke's hanging out behind me on
7
stage. Till then, gracias amigos.I'll see you later. Hey billy here's the 20 bucks, thanks man!

Real-Life English in Action: A Musician’s Chat Backstage

Imagine chatting with a famous musician after a show—this is exactly the scenario in the video! Billy Sheehan, a seasoned bass player, shares his experience with amplifiers in a casual, energetic talk at a New York City club. The dialogue is packed with natural phrases you’d use in everyday conversations, making it perfect for english speaking practice. From expressing satisfaction (“haven’t let me down at all”) to talking about future plans (“I’ll be doing more little video things”), it’s a goldmine of real-world language.

5 Useful Chunks to Boost Your Fluency

  • “Relying on”: Billy says, “I’ve been relying on my Hartke amps”—a common way to talk about trusting something. Use it like: “I rely on my coffee maker every morning!”
  • “Solid as a rock”: He describes the amps as “solid as a rock” to mean extremely reliable. Try: “My friend’s support is solid as a rock.”
  • “Front of house mixer”: A specific term, but the structure “front of house” is useful for describing event roles. Example: “The front of house team set up the venue.”
  • “Allowed me to”: “Larry allowed me to play through these amps”—a polite way to talk about permission. Use: “My teacher allowed me to redo the test.”
  • “Hanging out behind me”: Billy mentions amps “hanging out behind me”—a casual phrase for things being nearby. Try: “My dog’s hanging out behind the couch.”

Your Shadowing Challenge: Sound Like a Native in 5 Minutes

Ready to improve english pronunciation and fluency? Try the shadowing technique—a proven method where you repeat phrases right after the speaker. Here’s how: Play the video, pause after each 5-second chunk, and mimic Billy’s tone, speed, and stress. Focus on his casual “gracias amigos” (he mixes in Spanish, but keep it natural!) and the way he emphasizes “very very pleased.” This isn’t just shadow speech—it’s training your mouth and brain to think in English. Do this daily, and you’ll notice smoother speech in no time. Remember: shadowspeaks volumes—practice makes progress!

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
